External engagement

The external engagement team is responsible for managing NICE’s presence at conferences and events; coordinating a programme of speaking engagements’ planning and delivering the NICE annual conference, and disseminating our products to key external audiences.

Highlights from 2016/17

In July 2016, NICE hosted the NICE Forum, a one-day event partnered with the national Patient Safety Congress. The NICE Forum consisted of the following topics:

  • A focus on market access and delivering safe, effective and efficient care. Topics ranged from the Cancer Drugs Fund to the best practice for management of sepsis.
  • Discussions focused on transforming the health and care system and safety in healthcare.
  • The shared learning awards were presented and a winner selected. The 2016 winner was Somerset Gastroenterology Flexible Healthcare Team for their project, Foodtalk which aimed to increase the uptake of Vitamin D.

The statistics

In 2016/17, NICE representatives delivered 141 workshops and speeches at conferences and events across the UK and internationally.

Our staff and committee members presented on topics, including:

  • Cancer care
  • Supporting patients to manage multiple health conditions
  • Digital health

NICE also hosted an exhibition stand at 19 events and conferences in 2016/17, including:

  • The NHS health and care innovation expo where we also delivered several pop-up university workshops
  • Public Health England’s annual conference
  • Two community care live events attended by thousands of social care workers

A new collaboration

In August 2016 we successfully bid to co-host the 2018 guidelines international network conference in Manchester, together with the Scottish intercollegiate guidelines network.

The event will be an opportunity to discuss evidence-based practice globally, what challenges we face in the digital age and the purpose and impact of guidelines.

Hundreds of people help us to understand the needs of our stakeholders

The insight community at NICE was set up in 2015 to provide opportunities for our audience to play a part in shaping our products and services

The community is made up of people who give us feedback on our products, services and communications.  Their advice is invaluable. It helps us adapt the ways we work so that we provide the best service to as many people as possible

Last year, our insight community continued to grow. There are now almost 1,700 members representing audiences from across health and social care.

We have developed a web page for the community where members can see the outcomes of recent surveys and potential members can sign up to help with our regular research.

Our audience insight executive, Laura Delaney talks about some of the changes that have been brought about by her team in this blog.
