NICE and the BNF

The British National Formulary (BNF) is the most widely used medicines information resource in the UK.

NICE is committed to ensuring NHS staff have access to the latest high quality information to deliver the best possible patient care.  The three organisations that publish the BNF are the British Medical Association, Royal Pharmaceutical Society and Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health.

We provide access to the British National Formulary (BNF) and British National Formulary for Children (BNFC) for eligible health and social care professionals via our website and our apps for mobile devices.

In 2017, a new app will replace the current NICE BNF and BNFC apps, which will be phased out. The new app will be free to anyone in the NHS and non-commercial organisations (without the need to log-in) and will provide health and social care professionals in the UK with faster, easier access to the most up-to-date information on the use of medicines. NICE will continue to provide BNF information via its website.
